Success and Failure Road Sign with dramatic clouds and sky. What’s your sign? That is a question often asked by those who are interested in finding out what your astrological sign is. Even though I am not a believer in my role in the universe based upon my astrological sign, there are many who maintain your sign helps you in the business world, in friendships and with life in general. Some commonly believe you either fail or succeed based upon your sign.

Hearing this question made me reflect on my life as a believer in Christ. How do I communicate my faith in Christ in an effective manner to others especially those who do not know Christ? Are others curious about my life because they see something different in me?

What is the purpose of a sign? First of all, a sign is usually placed in location that is easily visible. Even though we usually do not walk around with a visible sign on our back, the world will be watching us to see how we treat others. Do I treat others with respect and appreciation? How do I respond to various tough situations? If I maintain a positive attitude when things are not going as planned, the reality of my faith will be displayed. My life will be visible to others.

What results will I get from having this Godly sign? What kind of message am I leaving to those around me? Do I receive positive feedback? I want the “sign” of my life to point to Jesus and His character. I want them to feel His love because of my love for them.

jesus on crossSo, the question is? What’s your sign? My sign is JESUS!

Matthew 5:14-16Matthew 5:14-16
English: American Standard Version (1901) - ASV

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the house. 16 Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Your Spiritual Weather Report

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Please visit my web site: www.soyouretheministerswife.com

Early in WWII, baseball broadcasters were forbidden to give information about weather conditions over the air for fear it might be of aid to enemy bombers. On one St. Louis broadcast, Dizzy dean and his play-by-play partner Johnny O’Hara filled a rain delay with about an hour of aimless talk, never mentioning why there was no action on the field. Finally, Dizzy Dean “ran out of words”, as O’Hara explained it, and said, “If you folks don’t know what’s holdin’ up this this game, just stick your heads out the window.”

Sticking your head out the window is one sure way to determine the weather but determining the signs of our time may be a bit harder.

The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven. He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘it is fair weather, for the sky is red,’ and in the morning, ‘today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.”  ( Matthew 16:1-3Matthew 16:1-3
English: American Standard Version (1901) - ASV

16 1 And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and trying him asked him to show them a sign from heaven. 2 But he answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, [It will be] fair weather: for the heaven is red. 3 And in the morning, [It will be] foul weather to-day: for the heaven is red and lowering. Ye know how to discern the face of the heaven; but ye cannot [discern] the signs of the times.

We need to be spiritually alert to interpret the signs of the times. Jesus told us in John 3:3John 3:3
English: American Standard Version (1901) - ASV

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except one be born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

that we need to be born again. We ask forgiveness of our sins and invite Christ into our hearts. The Holy Spirit that we receive at our new birth will guide use into truth. (John 14:17John 14:17
English: American Standard Version (1901) - ASV

17 [even] the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you.

& 16:13)  As we read the Bible, the Holy Spirit will give us insights into the times we are living in. Seeking God in prayer and living by faith will give us strength and enable us to be watchful in this world. (Matthew 26:41Matthew 26:41
English: American Standard Version (1901) - ASV

41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Jesus warned against false teaching. Matt. 16:11-12Matt. 16:11-12
English: American Standard Version (1901) - ASV

11 How is it that ye do not perceive that I spake not to you concerning bread? But beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. 12 Then understood they that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

WP-Bible plugin
“How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you about bread?  But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”  Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

There are many other areas we are to be spiritually alert to like what is socially acceptable. The Word of God gives us commandments and principles that we can live by.  (Eph. 5:15-17Eph. 5:15-17
English: American Standard Version (1901) - ASV

15 Look therefore carefully how ye walk, not as unwise, but as wise; 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Wherefore be ye not foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

WP-Bible plugin
) “Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.”

The only way to be alert is to live the faith.  Read the Word.  Go to church.  Be much in prayer.
